VIDEO: AI has potential to support clinical decision-making
SAN DIEGO — Artificial intelligence can streamline clinical services and offer decision support for clinicians, although it is not without pitfalls, according to a speaker at the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting.
During a presentation, Deepti Pandita, MD, FACP, FAMIA, the chief medical information officer at the University of California, Irvine Health, and colleagues discussed responsible AI use, generative AI, ChatGPT and how AI could both help and exacerbate health disparities.
“We also talk about the fact that a lot of clinicians use AI and may not even know that they’re using AI because it’s seamlessly delivered through the [electronic medical record],” Pandita said.
She pointed out that AI has improved diagnostics across specialties like radiology and ophthalmology, “where the clinician does not really have to do much and can trust the AI in terms of the reporting it’s giving to you.”
