Adherence to a plant-based diet was associated with improvements in multiple myeloma outcomes, including sustained minimal residual disease negativity, according to a study published in Clinical Cancer Research.

“To further validate these findings prospectively, we are designing interventional dietary studies in myeloma and its precursor conditions, smoldering myeloma and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance,” Urvi A. Shah, MD, a hematologist-oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, told Healio. “We will evaluate the impact of dietary changes on the gut microbiome and disease outcomes.”
