In this video, Teri Campbell, MSN, RN, CFRN, CEN, PHRN, discusses how the spread of misinformation on social media impacts emergency nursing and other aspects of health care.

The lecture, presented by Stephanie A. Suzadail, MSN, RN, PHRN, CFRN, CEN, CPEN, CTRN, TCRN, flight nurse with Geisinger and registered nurse for NDMS PA-3 Disaster Medical Assistance Team, at the Emergency Nurses Association annual conference, provided some reasoning as to why people have been willing to believe misinformation shared through social media but reject credible facts from health care professionals and the medical community.

“We don’t have all the answers and that’s very disconcerting,” said Campbell, flight nurse with the University of Chicago hospitals and executive director of the Illinois Heart Rescue at the University of Illinois at Chicago. “It’s very concerning for the lay public, and so why it’s so easy to grasp onto straws of information that may be incorrect just because an “answer” was given.”
