A HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based telehealth solution that allows physicians to perform their hospital rounds virtually is now available, the digital health platform Zyter announced.

Perspective from Joseph C. Kvedar, MD

According to a press release, physicians can acquire Zyter Virtual Rounding (Zyter) through a browser on any iOS or Android digital tablet or mobile device with a cellular or internet connection. The patient, the care team and the patient’s family members all receive notification of the virtual visit via email or text message so they can connect and participate. The tool integrates with electronic health record systems to provide “real-time access” to the patient’s data.

This technology “is a game changer, as it enables physicians and others to not only see the patient, but also every detail of that patient’s medical record during a video chat call,” Sanjay Govil, founder and CEO of Zyter, said in the press release. “By bringing in more data, the quality of care during virtual rounds can increase because physicians have a complete, holistic view of their patients and conditions.”

The press release also said that by minimizing the number of people who are in the patient’s room, Zyter Virtual Rounding could reduce the amount of personal protective equipment that health systems need. The tool can also be integrated with in-home visits and patient device monitoring.
