Mayo Clinic ranked top hospital in the United States

The Mayo Clinic was ranked No. 1 on the 2019 to 2020 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals survey.
The Mayo Clinic was also ranked No. 1 hospital in five specialties: diabetes and endocrinology; ears, nose and throat; gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; nephrology; and urology. It was ranked among the top five in multiple other specialties, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and rheumatology.
The 2019 to 2020 Honor Role, which consists of 20 hospitals with the highest rankings and largest numbers of procedure and condition ratings, includes the following:

11. University of Michigan Hospitals-Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor
12. Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto, California
13. Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston
14. Mount Sinai Hospital, New York
15. UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, Pittsburgh

Other No. 1 specialty rankings included the University of Texas MD Anderson Center for cancer, the Cleveland Clinic for cardiology and heart surgery, and the Hospital for Special Surgery for orthopedics.
The survey evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals, 1,447 of which received a “High Performing” rating for at least one of the included procedures and conditions. Only 165 hospitals were ranked for each specialty.
“This year we revised the methodology to incorporate new measures of patient-centered care and to enhance how we account for differences in hospitals’ patient populations,” Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News, said in the press release. “The new model provides a more comprehensive assessment that is useful to patients, families and their medical professionals.” – by Erin Michael
