VIDEO: Rising incidence of loneliness among physicians must be addressed

PHILADELPHIA – Physicians need to find time work through the feeling of loneliness they may have for their, and their patients’ sakes, a speaker at American College of Physicians Internal Medicine Meeting said.

Recent studies have suggested that the incidence of loneliness is “clearly on the rise,” Alan Dow, MD, assistant vice president of health sciences for interprofessional education and collaborative care at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Healio Primary Care Today board member said.

“I know you don’t need something else to do for your work -- we are all very busy. But if you think about what’s important, what can be something that you invest your time in that can help give back, those interactions in our community, whether it is with professional societies like ACP or through other things, they will makes us healthier, happier and help create that better world that we all want as physicians.” – by Janel Miller
