NEWARK, Del. — Pancreatic cancer is on the rise and is expected to surpass colon and rectal cancer as the third-leading cause of cancer-related death, Fedele DePalma, MD, gastroenterologist at Christiana Care Health System, said at the second annual GI Symposium.

However, by addressing the causes and risk factors of pancreatic cancer, such as smoking, obesity, alcohol intake and a diet high in fat and red meat, primary care physicians and specialists can help to reduce the incidence of the disease, DePalma told Healio Internal Medicine. – by Alaina Tedesco
