NEW ORLEANS — ACP’s annual meeting provides internists and other medical professionals the opportunity to share knowledge, build community and identify beliefs, according to Alan Dow, MD, MSHA, a general internist at Virginia Commonwealth University and member of the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting planning committee.

The information gleaned, either from formal sessions or informal gatherings during the conference’s off hours, can then be shared with colleagues to enrich the work cycle, he said.

Dow discussed the session that found “most compelling,” and apparently other attendees did too, as he said it received a standing ovation.

“[This session] pulled out what made Leonardo Da Vinci such a tremendous individual, such an innovator and creator and then [the speaker] contrasted that with the pressures that are on physicians today... We want people who are going to be nuanced, creative and appreciate subtlety with [these] pressures ... and how we need to be thinking differently about the structures around us and help us be more like Leonardo and less like we are right now as physicians.”
