SAN DIEGO — There are several things to remember when coding for a patient’s office visits for vaccinations and other procedures, according to a presenter at the ACP Internal Medicine Annual Meeting.

“The most important thing to remember is to code for the vaccine itself, with the particular [Current Procedural Terminology] code that is used, and then to use the appropriate diagnostic code,” Jason M. Goldman, MD, FACP, general internal medicine practitioner in Coral Springs, Florida, and governor of the Florida Chapter of the ACP, told Healio Family Medicine.

Goldman also noted that using the right modifiers and correctly identifying the type of patient being treated are also important when coding.
