FDA approves mobile app for diabetes monitoring
A novel mobile app from Philosys, the Gmate SMART Blood Glucose Monitoring System and App for Android, has been approved by the FDA.
The system, which was already available for iOS users free of charge, consists of a portable blood glucose meter that plugs into the phone’s headphone jack and delivers the blood glucose test results. The quarter-sized meter works in conjunction with the app to provide the user with tools to better manage their diabetes. In addition to goal setting and graphing, the app allows the user to send blood glucose test results via email or text to a family member or health care provider, according to the press release.
Philosys hopes that the new app will work toward advancing communication and notifications between patients and their health care providers.
“As cloud technology grows, Philosys is working to create an App-To-Cloud secure connection in the next generation of updates. Not only is Gmate SMART changing diabetes care by improving health and lifestyle, but it’s also affordable. Most retail pharmacies are selling both the meter and box of 50 count strips at a low cost,” Mike Tickle, senior VP of sales, Philosys, said in a press release.
