Carl V. Crawford, Jr., MD, discusses the difference between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, how to diagnose the disease and when to refer patients’ to a gastroenterologist.
“The pathophysiology of celiac disease is different from other gluten-related disorders, or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. But the classic symptoms of change in bowel habits, like diarrhea, dyspepsia, bloating, fatigue, abdominal pain, weight loss, and in this day and age, even obesity, are common in both patient groups,” Crawford said during a presentation.
