BLOG: Obama administration releases new Affordable Care Act regulations

Following close on the heels of the election, President Obama’s administration released three proposed rules to advance important market reform provisions in the Affordable Care Act. If implemented, the first proposed rule will prohibit health insurance companies from discriminating against individuals because of a pre-existing or chronic condition.
Catherine Brandon
The second proposed rule will outline policies and standards for coverage of essential health benefits by insurance plans that participate in state exchanges.
The third proposed rule will expand employment-based wellness programs and prevent underwriting practices that could potentially reduce benefits based on health status.
The time period for submission of public comments on these proposed rules is now open. The administration’s announcement may be accessed through the Department of Health and Human Services.
