BOSTON – Diversity in the medical profession is crucial, and tapping into underrepresented populations to achieve that goal with a solid foundation of mentorship is key, according to Alyx B. Porter, MD, in this Healio video.

“We firmly believe that pairing students with mentors in the fields they aspire to go into only helps them realize their dreams that much more firmly,” said Porter, cofounder of ElevateMeD.

Since its inception in 2019, the company has given more than $1 million in scholarships and support to medical students from diverse backgrounds across the United States. ElevateMeD is also committed to leadership development because those who are given a boost in the field often become mentors themselves, as well as peak emotional, professional, financial and mental health and performance.

“We want to create what we wished we had,” Porter added.
