Patients who received all medication up front and only monitored via two phone calls over 12 weeks achieved 95% sustained virologic response, according to a presentation at The Digital Liver Meeting Experience.

“In terms of thinking about the barriers to care and getting folks through treatment particularly in underresourced areas and low to middle income countries, this is a huge deal,” Susanna Naggie, MD, from Duke University, said in an interview with Healio.

In this global study, researchers showed 95% of participants achieved sustained virologic response with just two touchpoints over the course of the 12 weeks of treatment.

“Overall, the minimal monitoring approach really does ... contribute to our understanding of how this can be done safely,” Naggie said.
