In this exclusive video, Nancy S. Reau, MD, section chief of hepatology and associate director of organ transplantation at Rush University Medical Center, discusses the lasting impacts of COVID-19 on hepatology practice.

She voiced her concerns about how it might impact some patients, particularly those with socioeconomic disadvantages, but also said it could present new opportunities to continue to treat patients virtually. In her practice, Reau said telehealth has been beneficial for patients with fatty liver disease, as well as those with hepatitis B or C. However, things like edema or ascites may still require patients to come to the clinic to see their physician.
