NASHNET has designated the Central Virginia VA Health Care System as its eighth founding charter member and “center of excellence” in recognition of the system’s work in fatty liver disease, according to a press release.

In partnership with the Kinetix Group, the centers of excellence work together to define and spread care delivery best practices for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.

“This innovative collaboration supports our goals to improve and address key issues related to the management of NASH,” Michael Fuchs, MD, PhD, chief of hepatology and liver transplantation at Central Virginia VA Health Care System, said in the release. “The NASHNET Center of Excellence network will promote shared learnings from experts across the country to help us all take NASH care to the next level, and our organizations and our patients will benefit.”

The existing NASHNET centers of excellence include Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, Cedars-Sinai in California, The Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas in Texas, Mount Sinai Health System in New York, NYU Langone Health in New York, Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Illinois, and Ochsner Health System in Louisiana.

“NASHNET continues to pursue its goal of defining a best practice model for NASH care delivery and to develop and deploy innovative solutions to improve patient care,” Anna Thomas, NASHNET co-director, said. “The individuals leading these efforts at their respective centers of excellence play a critical role in sharing their experience, knowledge, and wisdom for the benefit of everyone in the NASH community.”
