The American Gastroenterological Association, in collaboration with PRIME Education, Inc. and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, announced the launch of an educational program that will improve treatment decision-making in gastroenterological diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and hepatitis C virus infection.

The collegial program will include 12 live workshops conducted in cities across the U.S. with high prevalence and extensive networks of health care professionals who treat HCV and IBD, according to a press release. The goal is to bring together these providers and managed care pharmacy professionals to achieve “mutual understanding of their interprofessional roles and shared goals for promoting appropriate, timely and effective treatment practices for patients.”

The program can benefit the physicians and professionals who manage patients with HCV and IBD because of recent paradigm shifts in treatment and available therapies. The workshops will address issues of cost and health outcomes for treating these two patient populations.

The first workshop will be at the AMCP Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA, April 19-22.

Disclosure: The program is sponsored through educational grants from AbbVie and Gilead Sciences.
