LONDON — Markus Peck-Radosavljevic, MD, secretary general of EASL and co-chair of the International Liver Congress, presented meeting highlights including new hepatitis C guidelines at Thursday’s opening session.

He highlighted Thursday morning’s launch of WHO hepatitis C treatment guidelines.

“I think this is a milestone for EASL, but also for WHO, because they produced guidelines targeting mainly countries with resource-limited settings,” Peck-Radosavljevic said.

He also mentioned the launch of new EASL guidelines for hepatitis C, with a discussion scheduled for Saturday.

Peck-Radosavljevic reported the meeting had a record 10,638 participants in attendance, including 1,187 from the United States. They were followed closely by participants from the UK, with attendees from Germany, France and Spain rounding out the top five countries. He said there also was a record number of 2,852 abstract submissions, with 1,456 accepted, including 162 oral and 1,294 poster presentations.

Thirty-two late-breaker abstracts were accepted from 74 submissions.
