VIDEO: Iron regulation can have significant impact on porphyria development
In this video, Amy Dickey, MD, MSc, discusses a study presented at ASH Annual Meeting that examined treatment of erythropoetic protoporphyria and X-linked protoporphyria.
Dickey, an assistant professor at Massachusetts General Hospital, highlighted the study, which specifically looked into disrupting the iron-responsive element that leads to heme synthesis and worsening disease.
“It's really exciting to be able to understand some of the regulation of iron in those conditions,” Dickey said.
