I love this question because obesity is a complex, heterogeneous, chronic, difficult-to-treat disease. So, it’s not just a one-size-fits-all that should be used for treatment. Basically, we do a very thorough evaluation of each person to identify all of the different factors. So we look at every contributor to weight gain, and every barrier to weight loss. These can include medical conditions that have been diagnosed or even not yet diagnosed. These can include medications that people are on that may be weight-promoting. Allergies play a role, lifestyle factors, genetics; these are just some examples of those factors. And then, basically, when we put together a treatment plan, we take into account all of these different factors, so we can come up with a highly personalized multifactorial treatment plan, in addition to thinking about whether medication is an appropriate option for that patient.
