In this Healio exclusive video, Ronda S. Farah, MD, FAAD, discusses surgical and nonsurgical technologies for comprehensive hair restoration that she highlighted during a session at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting.

“I talked about photobiomodulation, which is low level light to help grow hair,” Farah, an associate professor in the department of dermatology at University of Minnesota, told Healio. “Typically in my clinic, they’ll use one of the hair combs, because those do seem to work in our studies of men and women.”

The session was part of a larger presentation directed by Neil S. Sadick, MD, FAAD, head and founder of Sadick Research Group and clinical professor of dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Farah noted that it is important to explain to patients appropriate device expectations.

“They can be helpful. They won’t cure hair loss, but with androgenetic alopecia we definitely, in our independent study, saw improvement with those devices,” Farah said.
