WAILEA, Hawaii — The treatment of actinic keratosis can be challenging. At the Maui Derm meeting, George M. Martin, MD, meeting founder and program director, and Ted Rosen, MD, gave an update on treatment options.

In this Healio video exclusive, Martin summarizes the pair’s discussion, going over the four main treatment options — 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), tirbanibulin 1% ointment, imiquimod cream and photodynamic therapy (PDT). He includes the pros and cons of each option, as well as guidelines on how to administer the treatments.

For example, Martin outlines how 5 FU should not be used for more than 1 week; how to have effective and painless PDT with the addition of vitamin D for 2 weeks prior to treatment; and how to minimize time on imiquimod.
