Key takeaways:

  • Physician assistants and nurse practitioners maximize patient satisfaction and outcome data in orthopedic care.
  • Orthopedists should find unique ways to measure the impact of their advanced practice providers.

WAILEA, Hawaii — At Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Allison Terry, PA-C, discussed how advanced practice providers, such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners, can help maximize orthopedic patient care.

“Be cognizant of how you are using your physician assistant (PA). Sometimes, relative value unit (RVU) is not the best way to measure your productivity,” she said. “Oftentimes, your PAs and nurse practitioners are providing significant benefit to your practice that may not be measurable in an RVU, so think of unique ways that you can measure how they are improving your practice,” Terry added.
