Key takeaways:

  • 3D CT and dynamic 3D CT scans objectively measure anatomic parameters before and after patellofemoral surgery.
  • 3D CT scans are used to measure, plan and assess treatments for patients with pain and instability.

In this video, Andrew J. Cosgarea, MD, discussed the value of 3D CT scanning to measure malalignment and maltracking, plan and simulate surgery and assess surgical outcomes for patients treated for patellofemoral pain and instability.

“We’ve come to appreciate the value of computed tomography, or CT scanning, to help us better understand and quantify knee alignment and patellar tracking,” he said.

“By using objective radiographic measurements, we can more accurately characterize patterns and more importantly objectively measure anatomic and kinematic parameters before and after surgery,” Cosgarea added.
