A healthy 25-year-old man presented with worsening pain and swelling over the ring finger metacarpophalangeal joint and mild scissoring of the index finger 11 months after a procedure for a circular saw injury on the left hand.
Jerry I. Huang, MD, and colleagues elected to perform metacarpophalangeal (MCP) pyrocarbon arthroplasty on the ring finger to provide pain relief while maintaining range of motion. For the index finger, they recommended nonunion repair with distal radius autograft and repair of the MCP joint index finger radial collateral ligament.
Demonstrated in this video is the patient at final follow-up showing full composite flexion and extension of the left hand.
