A finger prick test measured blood-based biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease and has potential to increase accessibility of testing, according to research at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference.

A healthy 25-year-old man presented with worsening pain and swelling over the ring finger metacarpophalangeal joint and mild scissoring of the index finger 11 months after a procedure for a circular saw injury on the left hand.

Results showed an association of fewer skin complications and less orthotic-related pain with use of a casting orthosis for mallet finger immobilization compared with a traditional thermoplastic splint.
