Key takeaways:

  • The Biorepository Network of the Biologic Association allows surgeons to study platelet-rich plasma.
  • Patients with more lymphocytes in their platelet-rich plasma were more likely to be responders.

NEW ORLEANS — In this video, Jason L. Dragoo, MD, discusses how implementation of the National Biorepository Network of the Biologic Association has allowed surgeons to examine platelet-rich plasma more thoroughly.

“Every patient we treat, we take a bit of their PRP and we study it in the laboratory. We follow these patients for many months and years to see how they do,” Dragoo told Healio. “We can correlate what’s in their PRP with how they do over time, and we found some interesting things right from the beginning.”

He added, “We have a lot more work to do, but that is why the Biologic Association is here – so we can go forward to refine and to improve upon our biologics for our patients in orthopedic surgery.”
