DALLAS — At the Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Meeting, Bradley S. Lambert, PhD, discussed the use of upper extremity blood flow restriction and low-load resistance exercise for division 1 collegiate baseball pitchers.
“Following training, we observed that the group that performed blood flow restriction had greater increases in shoulder and whole-arm lean mass [and] greater increases in work capacity, and this led to preservation of isometric strength in the shoulder as well as preserved biomechanics,” he said. “So, we think this is potentially a therapy or a preventative strategy for maintaining shoulder health in throwing and perhaps other overhead athletes.”
