WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Cory A. Collinge, MD, spoke about intramedullary and extramedullary nailing and plating for patients with complex periprosthetic distal femur fractures.

“These are complicated fractures, and we would like these often-osteoporotic people to be able to get up, move around and potentially bear weight,” he said. “Evolution in nailing [and] evolution in plating has allowed this to happen. We’ve learned how to do some minimally invasive things and less open surgery that have helped, and I think that the implant manufacturers have put some energy into helping create this kind of possibility.”
