VIDEO: At Orthopedics Today Hawaii, panel discusses private practice, hospital employment
KOLOA, Hawaii — In this video, Jack M. Bert, MD, provides an overview of practice management issues discussed at Orthopedics Today Hawaii.
“We discussed private practice – the good, the bad and sometimes the ugly of it – as well as professional service agreements [and] utilizing capital partners for private equity. And we had a lively pro/con debate regarding use of private equity for necessitating growth in your practice,” Bert told Healio.
Discussions also included being employed by a hospital system vs. being in private practice.
“You have to be careful with respect to contract negotiation when you are signing employment contracts, whether it be private practice, whether it be with a hospital-owned situation or if the group is going to be getting into a private equity situation that you are considering joining,” Bert said. “Be careful to make sure that you are part of that solution.”
