LAS VEGAS — Optos has expanded the optomap retinal imaging capabilities for its California FA device, which now includes an ultra-widefield red/green/blue image, the company announced at Vision Expo West.

“We are pleased to bring another image modality to our California FA device,” Optos CEO Rob Kennedy said in a related press release. “The optimized color palette used in the new optomap ultra-widefield color [red/green/blue] image was created in close collaboration with eye care professionals. The new image modality, in addition to our clinically validated optomap color [red/green] images, provides additional retinal visualization to our customers as they manage their patient’s treatment and ongoing care.”

According to the release, the new red/green/blue (rgb) image modality is captured at the same time as the optomap red/green image, providing two ultra-widefield images in one capture.

“The optomap color rgb is particularly impressive in its ability to discern holes in peripheral lattice degeneration and retinoschisis, which leads to immediate improvement to patient care,” David M. Brown, MD, from Retina Consultants of Texas, said in the release. “It is an exponential advancement in retinal imaging that will rapidly become the standard of care in our mutual fight against blindness.”
