FRANKFURT, Germany — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ESCRS winter meeting, Michael Amon, MD, presents a new book on flange techniques for IOL scleral fixation.

With patients living to an older age, lenses tend to decenter or dislocate and often have to be exchanged or re-fixated on the sclera. Because it is difficult to know which of the various techniques for scleral fixation is best for each patient, Amon was inspired to co-author a book with experts in this area, including Liliana Werner, Shin Yamane, Sergio Canabrava, Gabor Scharioth and Ehud Assia.

“I think this book gives a nice overview of the problem, of the causes of dislocation and the development of these scleral fixation techniques,” he said.

Amon also developed the Amon forceps-needle (Geuder) for haptics externalization.
