The factors that contribute to high risk for dry eye in women, there tend to be a few. People most at risk for developing dry eye are adults over 65 years old as just part of the natural aging process. For women, dry eye can also be complicated by hormonal changes caused by pregnancy or changes in life, the use of oral contraceptives and/or menopause, even longtime use of contact lenses, digital eye strain in our world today with computer use, and sometimes, eye makeup can intensify its symptoms too. We also have aesthetic eyelashes, tattooed makeup. All of those can affect tear function. For those who have certain medical conditions, diabetes, thyroid, some autoimmune disorders, there are people who are on certain medications, or have had refractive eye surgeries, such as LASIKs, they also may be more prone to developing dry eye symptoms.
