Treatment Options
Treatment options for nonmelanoma skin cancers include surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, radiation, curettage and electrodesiccation, cryosurgery, photodynamic therapy, topical treatments, and carbon dioxide laser. Treatment also includes hedgehog pathway inhibitors for metastatic basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or locally advanced BCC untreatable by local modalities or immunotherapy, specifically PD-1 inhibitors, for metastatic squamous cell carcinoma or locally advanced BCC untreatable by local modalities.
Melanoma treatment, which is dependent on staging, includes excision with or without lymph node management, intralesional therapy, immunotherapy, signal transduction inhibitors, chemotherapy and palliative local therapy.
