There are no obvious known risk factors for acquiring mantle cell lymphoma. The relatively uncommon form of lymphoma makes up about six to 8% of new cases. There's some epidemiologic data suggesting that exposure to insecticides and pesticides might increase the risk for all types of lymphoma, including mantle cell lymphoma, so that's a potential risk factor. We know that mantle cell lymphoma is more common in men than it is in women and the exact reasons for that are not clear. We don't have a great biologic explanation for that, but it's just an observation. So studies trying to better understand the risk factors for mantle cell lymphoma are ongoing.
