Kwame Osei, MD, FACE, FACP, was presented with the Outstanding Service Award for the Promotion of Endocrine Health of an Underserved Population during the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists 21st Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress Meeting in Philadelphia.

The award recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions to the care, health and service of an underserved population through “leadership, long-term commitment, vision, innovation, impact and outcomes,” according to a press release.

Osei came to the United States in 1978 for a residency in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia. He was named national medical Association Distinguished Internist of the Year in 2005, and coordinated a global diabetes summit at Ohio State in 2007.

Besides being a member of the Endocrine Today Editorial Board, Osei heads the Ohio State University Medical Center’s Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, as well as the Diabetes Research Center. His division has appeared on the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” list on a regular basis.
