NEW ORLEANS — In this video exclusive, Jonathan D. Leffert, MD, talks with Arti Bhan, MD, FACE, and Cheryl Rosenfeld, DO, FACE, FACP, FSVM, ECNUFC, about building a social media presence and talking with patients about social media hype.

Leffert is managing partner at North Texas Endocrine Center, a past president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology and a Healio | Endocrine Today Editorial Board Member. Bhan is division head of endocrinology, diabetes, bone and mineral disorders at Henry Ford Health in Detroit and a Healio | Endocrine Today Editorial Board Member. Rosenfeld is an endocrinologist with North Jersey Endocrine Consultants.

“The most important thing to build a good social media presence is like how you’d describe a good physician: the availability, the affability and the ability,” Bhan said.

Applied to social media, that means building your brand by regularly posting relevant content with correct, accessible data.

When discussing with patients information they have seen on social media, Rosenfeld advises listening respectfully, doing any necessary research to explain the evidence, and then routing them to reputable site.
