“The Association of PAs in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology is the only national association for PAs and NPs that practice in the allergy and asthma subspecialty,” Brian Bizik, PA-C, president of the organization, told Healio.

Brian Bizik

“We have an annual meeting that brings together some of the top speakers and national thought leaders in the field,” Bizik continued. “The conference focus is on practical applications of the latest research, ideas and topics that change the way PAs and NPs practice on a daily basis.”

Interactive workshops, case discussions and receptions will give attendees opportunities to enhance their skills and network with other professionals, according to the organization.

Andrew Liu, MD, a specialist in pediatric asthma, allergy and immunology at Children’s Hospital Colorado, will provide the keynote address and speak during another one of the conference’s sessions.

“Dr. Liu will be presenting two lectures on our opening day, forming the backbone of our conference keynote kickoff,” Bizik said. “He will be exploring the relationship between allergy and asthma as well as other aspects of airway disease and how aeroallergen sensitization can improve the management of a wheezing child.”

Other speakers will include:

  • Shannon Brown
  • Keri Holyoak, PA-C
  • John James, MD
  • Andrea M. Jensen, CHES, AE-C
  • David Mangold, PA-C
  • Amanda L. Michaud, DMSc, PA-C, AE-C

  • Melinda M. Rathkopf, MD, FAAAAI, FACAAI, FAAP

“With over 20 lectures and breakout sessions, the 2023 meeting in Park City is our most comprehensive conference to date,” Bizik said. “We will be exploring multiple aspects of asthma including treatment and prevention, even how to prevent asthma attacks in the home.”

Allergy topics will include the use of immunotherapy for allergy prevention as well as how allergen extracts are made and administered. Bizik also noted the conference’s partnership with HollisterStier Allergy to provide an expanded view of how allergen s are collected and purified. Multiple lectures will examine the dermatologic aspects of allergy as well.

Additionally, Bizik emphasized the dining opportunities.

“Our meeting is unique in that we provide five meals as part of the conference. No one leaves this meeting hungry!” he said.

Also, the APA-AAI will host a reception and award-winning author, comedian and magician Matt Fiore on July 29. Registration is open at aapaaai.org/events. Early bird registration ends on June 15.
