LAS VEGAS – A variety of glaucoma and cataract technologies in the pipeline now will help optometric patients in the future, Justin A. Schweitzer, OD, FAAO, of Vance Thompson Vision Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., said at Vision Expo West.

Justin A. Schweitzer, OD, FAAO, will be sharing the lead on a lecture at Optometry’s Meeting focusing on the advancements of anterior segment surgery and the optometrist’s role.

At this year’s Vision Expo East, Justin A. Schweitzer, OD, FAAO, provided an overview of upcoming drug-delivery systems for glaucoma and their potential to help patients with compliance.

Justin A. Schweitzer, OD, FAAO, said that his SECO lecture on innovations in glaucoma featured current and upcoming technology and treatments including the correcting applanation tonometer system and IOP sensors placed inside the eye.

In recognition of World Glaucoma Week, March 7-13, Justin A. Schweitzer, OD, FAAO, spoke about the number of new options in the optometrist’s toolbox to diagnose and treat glaucoma to both catch the disease early and treat those affected.

Patients who underwent cataract surgery combined with the Glaukos iStent inject had significantly improved vision-related quality of life, including ocular pain relief, compared with those who underwent cataract surgery alone.
