EULAR has initiated a survey that will collect data directly from patients on the impact and outcomes of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, according to a statement released during the EULAR 2023 Congress.
“The EULAR Impact of RMDs survey brings together the science as well as the people with the RMD experiences,” Elsa Frazao Mateus, PhD, the EULAR PARE committee vice president, said during a press conference. “This project is designed to collect data directly from the patients suffering from rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases through an online survey.”
According to EULAR, information collected from the Impact of RMDs survey will be used to construct an online database cataloguing the impact of RMDs on patients, as well as patient-reported outcomes. Additionally, the survey will measure the impact of these diseases on patients’ social and work lives. The survey is expected to be completed in a recurring manner so that patients may be followed longitudinally, the release said.
During the initial survey, patients will volunteer baseline data including demographic and socioeconomic information. Subsequent surveys completed on a biannual basis will allow researchers to follow up regarding specific disease types over an extended period of time, according to the release.
“We aim to capture the patient-provided information to help us understand how these diseases have real impact on patients and people’s lives,” Mateus said. “This will also help us to identify health care gaps and unmet needs.”
