Cassandra Calabrese

My dad, Leonard Calabrese, DO, has emulated what it means to love what you do. He and I are longtime travel buddies and I had joined him for many American College of Rheumatology and EULAR conferences, attending more of these events — albeit not as a registered attendee — than most rheumatologists by the time I was in college.

Aside from the great times we had traveling and exploring different cities and countries, I loved to go with him to the dinners and various events with his friends and colleagues in the rheumatology field. There was an overwhelming sense of comradery, and I can remember looking around, thinking, “Hey, these guys are having fun.”

Through these experiences I learned that rheumatology is like a family, and ACR and EULAR are like big family reunions; the esprit de corps really struck me. I wanted to work with these people. My rheumatology career has brought me much joy, whether it be connecting with patients, colleagues or the fact that it is Take Your Daughter to Work Day every day.
