AMSTERDAM — Rheumatologists, patients, scientists and pharmaceutical professionals from more than 120 countries around the world will gather at the 2018 Annual Congress of EULAR this week to exchange scientific and clinical information.
Healio Rheumatology will provide live coverage onsite at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Center from Wednesday, June 13, to Saturday, June 16.
“EULAR congresses have, rightly so, received tremendous interest in terms of participation and quality of contributions,” Johannes W. J. Bijlsma, MD, PhD, president of EULAR, said in a statement. “This also reflects the availability of increased information on the impact, burden and cost of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases for the individual and society, and a significantly improved ability to diagnose and treat them (early). The incorporation of health professional and patient organizations within EULAR has been a unique stimulus for these advances.”
According to Bijlsma, the 2018 EULAR Annual Congress is expected to draw approximately 1,400 attendees, and attracted more than 5,050 abstract submissions, more than any other year. The meeting this year will include 370 oral presentations, as well as more than 175 sessions and poster tours, and more than 560 speakers. Out of the 2,256 poster displays spread over 3 days, 435 posters will be explained in 45 themed poster tours, Bijlsma wrote.
Topics will include clinical innovations, clinical translational research and basic science. In addition, there will be meetings with People with Arthritis and Rheumatism in Europe and Health Professionals in Rheumatology, as well as by members of the health care industry. The meeting will also see the release of results from EULAR’s initiatives, the EULAR School of Rheumatology, the “Don’t Delay, Connect Today” campaign and the launch of the EULAR Strategy 2018-2023.
“The WIN/HOT track for the busy clinician who wants an update on ‘What is New and How to Treat’ the major rheumatic diseases has become a much praised highlight of the EULAR Congress,” Bijlsma wrote. “Other crucial activities of the congress are the poster presentations and poster tours with their highly interactive exchanges among participants.”
According to Bijlsma, the 2018 annual congress represents the meeting’s first return to Amsterdam since 2006.
“The Amsterdam event will further strengthen the reputation of the EULAR Congress as a highly innovative and informative venue for clinical and translational researchers — not only within the different facets of our discipline, (including inflammation, pain, bone, mechanical and [inflammatory] disorders), but also learning from other relevant disciplines,” Bijlsma wrote. “The Amsterdam meeting will further promote the reputation of the EULAR Congress as the most innovative and informative venue for clinical research for the practicing physician.”
