LAS VEGAS — At the Osteoarthritis Research Society International World Congress, Jonathan Samuels, MD, from NYU Langone Medical Center, spoke about the impact of bariatric surgery on patients with knee osteoarthritis. In his study, patients had significantly decreased levels of leptin — an inflammatory mediator found in the blood — at 1 month, which Samuels said might help explain the finding.
