WASHINGTON — At the American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting, Leonard H. Calabrese, DO, rheumatologist at the Cleveland Clinic and Chief Medical Editor of Healio Rheumatology, discussed two discoveries for the treatment of gout.

Calabrese talked about how a presentation led by Kenneth S. Saag, MD, showed a strong association between lower uric acid levels and a decrease in gout comorbidities. He also mentioned pegloticase — a treatment for gout — and how researchers are trying to minimize its toxicity.
