Guidelines for ankylosing spondylitis, axial spondyloarthritis under review

The American College of Rheumatology and two other organizations anticipate publishing new treatment guidelines for ankylosing spondylitis and axial spondyloarthritis in the summer of 2014, according to a press release.

The ACR, along with the Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network and the Spondylitis Association of America, will address the most common clinical situations associated with treating patients with ankylosing spondylitis and axial spondyloarthritis. The guidelines also will focus on preventive care, pharmacological therapy, disease activity monitoring and specific patient populations, including children with juvenile-onset spondyloarthritis, according to the release.

Next month the organizations will present an opportunity for stakeholders to comment on the plan, and details and updates will be available on the ACR’s website.
