Key takeaways:
- Radiographic parameters did not correlate with function after conservative treatment of distal radius fractures.
- Future research should identify factors that may predict outcomes after conservative treatment.
Results presented at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand Annual Meeting showed radiographic parameters may not be associated with patient-reported function after nonoperative treatment of distal radius fractures.
“We still have to better understand what factors determine how patients do,” Jacques H. Hacquebord, MD, chief of hand surgery in the department of orthopedic surgery at NYU Langone and the Hansjörg Wyss department of plastic surgery, told Healio. “When we know that, then we will know better how to treat patients. Because the reality is that we are all unique, we are all different and what might work well for one patient may not work well for another patient, even though these two patients on the surface may seem similar and their injuries may seem similar.”
