According to the field safety notice, the devices have a polished taper-slip (PTS) stem system that may be associated with increased risk of periprosthetic femoral fracture compared with composite beam stems.
“Within the PTS stem category, stems manufactured from cobalt chromium alloy are at increased risk for PFF in comparison to stainless steel,” according to the Zimmer Biomet field safety notice. “The CPT Hip System Femoral Stem 12/14 Neck Taper is manufactured from cobalt chromium alloy.”
According to the field safety notice, Zimmer Biomet will phase out the CPT Hip System Femoral Stem 12/14 Neck Taper, with a target date of December 2024 to stop sales of the device.
