Key takeaways:

  • World Clubfoot Day raises awareness of clubfoot and honors Ignacio Ponseti, MD.
  • Clubfoot can be treated through the Ponseti method, a nonoperative treatment option.

June 3 marks World Clubfoot Day, established in 2013 to raise awareness of clubfoot and to honor Ignacio Ponseti, MD, who developed the Ponseti method, a nonoperative treatment for clubfoot.

In this video, Mark Myerson, MD, discussed how Steps2Walk, a global humanitarian organization, provides care for children and adults with foot and ankle deformities, including clubfoot, and educates local orthopedic surgeons in the management of these deformities.

“We try to raise awareness through social media on the impact of the treatments that we’re able to provide,” Myerson, president and founder of Steps2Walk, told Healio. “For us, it’s all about giving the gift of walking to these terribly disabled children around the world.”
