“On the Shoulders of Giants: The History of NYU Langone Orthopedics” details the history of the orthopedic department at NYU Langone. The film chronicles the innovation, research and legacy of the department, which was ranked fourth nationally for orthopedic hospitals in 2023 by U.S. News & World Report.
“There are thousands and thousands of patients who are benefitting from NYU Langone Orthopedics,” Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD, Walter A. L. Thompson Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at NYU Langone, said in the release. “This film shows the trajectory of our department as an amalgamation with roots in the beginning of the field at Bellevue in the 1850s to a humble specialty hospital in a Harlem brownstone to a powerhouse of innovation and influence in the field and in our patients’ lives. We are pleased that Tribeca Festival is honoring this special film that tells our story,” Zuckerman said.
According to the release, the film offers a view into the OR to illustrate the pioneering of innovative surgical techniques, as well as highlights NYU Langone Orthopedics’ commitment to gender, racial and cultural diversity.
