Harvard MedTech has leveraged its virtual reality platform and program, Vx Therapy, in a collaborative study with Rothman Orthopaedics, according to a press release.
The study will focus on psychosocial determinants of health in orthopedic surgery patients and is intended to evaluate the effectiveness of Vx Therapy in conjunction with other surgical procedures.
Vx Therapy is a combination of remote cognitive behavioral therapy and in-home virtual reality sessions. It has been presented as a solution for reducing pain and behavioral health conditions in patients with chronic cervical and lumbar pain.
“This study provides a comprehensive analysis of patient response to this nonpharmacological and noninterventional option to provide treatment for pain, as well as provide support for the psychosocial determinants of health that are so difficult to identify and address,” Jose A. Canseco, MD, PhD, the principal investigator of the study, assistant professor of orthopedic and spine surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and vice chair of research for Rothman Orthopaedics, said in the release.
